I remember a story from 'Lead The Field' (Nightingale Conant) about someone who, in the midst of a deep depression, was successful in finding a job. First he went to the library (substitute now with internet), there he studied a number of firms he would be interested in working for. He researched his top three more deeply. Then he researched their 'pain' and thought how he could help them. Then he wrote a specific letter describing the kind of problem that company (and related companies) were experiencing, plus some possible solutions, plus a bit of background information on himself. Finally he offered a free, no obligation interview to discuss some of the ideas he suggested in his letter.

For detail you'd have to listen to the programme (which is excellent anyway). That's my pennyworth....:)

If I could find the right opportunity elsewhere, I would definitely consider relocating.

I have been trying so many different angles and showcasing how my expertise can be applied to different industries and positions. Unfortunately, Atlanta is one of the toughest job markets in the nation. But I am willing to relocate just about anywhere!

Maybe it's time to consider a move? Like Stacey suggested, you might have to do something crazy. The economy isn't what it used to be. You have to chase after the job, get a new skill, or take another role.

Have you considered stepping outside of your wheelhouse and accepting a position that is out of your comfort zone? I know a lot of people that are doing that due to this crazy economy.

There are certainly a lot of social media consultants, but there are many more businesses who need our services than there are consultants! I would certainly consider it, Chris. If you don't want to quite go out on your own, maybe you could join forces with someone already doing it. Do it on the side, and then gradually as business improves you can devote more time to it.
